Book of Genesis Review

Aired February 7, 2011.

Genesis in Greek means "virgin." It is believed a very intelligent man by the name of Moses wrote this book.  Moses' teaching, or written down scriptures helped to write other Old Testament books.  When God (Allah, Yaweh) allowed the Bible to be written, his mission was to allow all people to be able to read the scriptures.

  • God created every thing in the beginning -the world, planets, animals, etc. The first humans shared gender equality in a sense; a male (Adam) and a female (Eve). There were angels in heaven before the creation of Adam and Eve.  Human beings are the only creatures who can go against God's authority by having the right to choose.
  • Satan (Shaitan) was a supervisor of music sung by the heavenly angels.  He wanted to be God. God casted him out of heaven and he is no longer allowed to return.  Now, he travels the earth and hell seeking humans who go against God's instructions.  His mission is to kill, steal, and destroy human beings and their interactions.
  • Noah and his family were the new human race.  After 40 days of rain, God sent a rainbow as a promise that he would never destroy the earth by water again.
  • We were all one people until the Tower of Babylon.  People were separated because they tried to build a tower to reach heaven; God also forced people to speak in different languages. That is why today we have many different world languages.
Hebrews believed they are the chosen people of God.  Jacob becomes Israel.  The reading of Joseph discusses behaviors of jealousy, family relationships, dreams, and good coming out of bad conditions if one is willing to patiently endure.
