Genesis Chp. 19 & 20 (Holy Bible)

Aired 11/1/2010.
To complete Chp.18, 18:20 told us about the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.  These were horrific sins happening in the neighboring cities near the southern end of the Dead Sea.

INTRODUCTION
Chp 19. We will discuss Lot -the nephew of Abraham who was born in southern Iraq.  Lot wanted to live separately from his religious upbringing.  He moved to the big city of Sodom near the southern end of the Dead Sea.  God (Allah, Yaweh) had instructed him not to do so.  Lot eventually becomes an elected official in the sinful city of Sodom.  God sends two angels to warn Lot that he was going to destroy the city of Sodom.  He and his family were heavenly forced to leave their home and community, but his wife looked back:

DISCUSSION
19:1 When Lot saw the two male angels of God he didn't know they were angels.  Lot showed respect or treated his neighbors like himself by bowing ro the strangers - bowing to the angels of God or Allah.
19:2  Sarah called Abraham her lord. So, in cultural trends of the day, Abraham is showing respect to the visitors by calling them lords.
19:4 The young and old men of Sodom were in the sinful spirit of homosexuality so much so that they would rape male travelers or strangers who would come into their lands.  Lot wanted to protect the male strangers.  Although, Lot lived in such a sinful  place he still honored his religious upbringing. That we may know them, "know" means to have sex with them.
19:8 Lot was willing to allow the men to rape his own daughters.
19:12 The two male angels told Lot to go, and leave out of the sinful city.  No others were living a godly lifestyle within the households in the city.  Meaning, no other households were saved due to lesbianism and homosexuality.
19:14 It appears that Lot's own son in-laws who married his daughters were taken by the sinful homosexual spirit.
19:16 Lot didn't want to leave the city of Sodom.  So the angels took control, and got Lot and his family out of Sodom.
19:25 God burned up everything in the city of Sodom.
19:26 The angels instructed Lot and his family not to look back or linger, but Lot's wife did so.  She was killed, and turned into a pillar of salt.  This was done to assure that Lot would not have any remains of his old life [past] to reflect on.  Later, we will discuss Jesus' (Isa) reference to Lot's wife to his followers.  That doesn't mean we shouldn't look back on our situations.  The angels revealed to Lot the history of the city before he was told not to look back or reflect.
19:29 So Sodom and Gomorrah were two sinful cities near one another that were destroyed by God.  Today, these cities are probably under water at the south end of the Dead Sea.  We do know the nation of Israel has oil wells near where Sodom and Gomorrah once stood.
19:30 Lot didn't feel safe in the small city of Zoar that he had suggested to the angels.  He and his two daughters lived in a cave.
