Sherlene Stevens: A Taste of the Germans Beer

That's how it began for many whites in our country.  Yup, drinking habits that were taught to the Native Americans, then the African slaves of how to survive without good, clean water. Some German immigrants even suggested that mothers give their infants and children beer instead of milk or dirty water.  That's how it began-- Our continent has less population of whites now because: (1) they're moving back or staying put in the Europe continent, and (2) they're dying from addictions (opiods, heroin, and Oxycontin). The opposite of population, some people of color have a personal attitude of "whatever whites can do, I can do far better." WARNING. Some humanly actions should never be imitated. Yet, they're are people of color, on a daily basis, that are abusing or selling drugs within our towns and neighborhoods. I believe if Americans would accept and teach the reality that most of our generational, skilled and unskilled workers had wish-and-a-prayer, lo...

Kids Are Saying "Don't Blow That Smoke In My Face!"

Have you ever walked down an urban, public area or sidewalk only to get a puff of some kind of strange smelling smoke blown in your face?  I have. After relocating to a more urban-populated neighborhood, a few years ago, I realized that such smoking behavior was the norm--an everyday situation within my local community. A few weeks ago, I read an article about a mother of color who was arrested for exhaling such smoke in front of her children. I have learned that second-hand weed smoke can exhibit someone to have the same effects as being truly high; it's called having a "contact."  The overall goal of the smoker is to dumb down the activity of children so that they will become less active or h...

Alcohol or Other Drugs During Pregnancy

From the Editor Since this is the last week of my hosted event, Womens Month, I wanted to discuss a more serious issue than our normal gender conversations. Ladies, you could have participated in any relating topic about women. What I noticed was that most of you focused more on women's history than current topics. Do we really value our today's experiences as women? Or are we stuck in remembering yesterday when today and tomorrow (Lord willing) is waiting for us? Thank you to those who have participated in this month's event. Lastly, all parents realize that you should not do drugs, especially when pregnant. Do you, your unique household, really know the side effects and symptoms of drug addiction? Men, your turn - entire month of June :) Speaking of men, ladies, Tyler Perry Studios' two new shows begin this week. The Haves and the Have Nots airs this evening on OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). Love Thy Neighbor , tomorrow. The New Monday Show Lecture highlighted...
