Sherlene Stevens: Gay Married Men and Family-Centered Holidays

For many marriages, the holidays can be a burden to dysfunctional marital relationships. Did you know that most dysfunctional married-couples separate, during this time of year? Such data reveals that these couples tend to follow through with the formal divorce actions.  There are many reasons as to why it is believed that couples struggle to remain married--just before and during traditional holidays. I have spoken to "many" straight married women who, let's blame it on the traditional holidays, complain of declines of spousal-bonding and productive emotions. Out of such discussions, these women truly believe the following actions are sure signs that believed straight-husbands may actually be gay or bisexual: Such men refuse to take time out of their plans to be with their wife or immediate family or wife and child(ren).  Such men plan quality time with their male friends instead of with the above mentioned. Such men whine that their wives spend too much time wit...

Sherlene Stevens: Entertainment of the Dead

As many of you know, my maternal grandmother passed away a few weeks ago (October 1) from kidney and heart failure. Before her recent passing, she was on dialysis for a few years. I know many of you probably have cherished entertainers and similar stories of loved ones who are no longer living in the earth realm.  As I was preparing my favorite videos list (Youtube) for our global December-holiday theme, I was listening and thinking about so many favorite entertainers, that we all have enjoyed, that are no longer living in the earth realm. Deceased entertainers who, when they were alive, were as real (easy going and nonjudgmental) to us as a favorite relative. Though they're no longer with us their lively actions remain within the entertainment industry (secular or faith-focused entertainment). Which brings me t...

Let's talk: How Do Children Learn Language

Children begin very early in life to acquire language skills. Language helps children gain independence, interact with others, and participate in the surrounding culture.  It plays a role in social interaction and expression of emotions, as well as learning. Most children follow a sequence of language development: crying and cooing, babbling, first words, and first sentences.  By the age of 5 most children have developed a proficiency in oral language and use it effectively to accomplish their purposes and meet their needs. Even very young children are soothed by the mere voices of loved ones.  Sing, chant, and carry on casual conversations with children--whether or not they answer or even before they are able to understand.  Children tune in more than we sometimes realize.  The language they hear is the raw material from which their own language develops--and through which much of their learning about the world takes place. Kids learn a lot when adults si...
