I will continue publishing new issues throughout the summer months.  As the east coast prepares for the first season's tropical storm, I want to share with families how to store important documents (keep near you always during a storm).

Let's talk How to Store Important Documents during a Storm

1. Make copies of all important documents.  However, most businesses require originals.
2. Place items in a ziploc bag and carry with you.
3. Scan the paperwork onto two CDs. Keep one at home and one in a safe-deposit box or at a trusted location.
4. Store all business machines on the second-floor level of your building before evacuating.

Important Documents to Prepare
  • Driver's license, passport
  • Social Security card(s)
  • Health Insurance card(s)
  • Immunization records, birth certificates
  • Insurance policies
  • Mortgage and other loan papers
  • Property deeds
  • Car title and registration
  • Marriage license
  • Your will
  • Last year's tax return
  • Bank and brokerage account numbers
  • Family pictures, photo albums, life books, journals
