Sherlene: Bringing Comfort To Storm Victims

Neighborhoods and communities affected by natural weather disasters need comfort and immediate lodging.  With the recent storms, most families couldn't afford to leave their dwelling places. Others were already facing a storm of life challenge of being one paycheck away from poverty status or homelessness--before the storm of natural weather.

FEMA is the agency that provides the government humanitarian aid. When thousands of people are affected in communities, partnering services are crucial in getting available resources to individuals and families in need.

There are a variety of non-traditional services that are usually needed such as assistance with prepping for a storm. Senior citizens are not able to carry belongings to a nearby public storage. Also, families with small children may need other types of services to prepare for evacuation. Then, there are the disaster relief staff groups who need lodging.  Would you consider volunteering to offer spacing at your home for someone you don't know who is in need? How would you handle such an emergency especially if you have young children at home? Are you willing to prepare home-cooked meals for those who may no longer have such working equipment at their dwelling place?

Major storm patterns have become more frequent in communities. After sharing quick weather alerts for a number of years, I have noticed that storms seem to take the same paths of entrance in low-lying neighborhoods. Citizens have also commented that areas that have never experienced flooding are now a part of storm evacuation plans.  Do you know where your nearest shelters are in your community?

I believe that we should take natural weather disasters more seriously. I, also, believe if we begin now in offering such local services of partnerships and volunteer services that it will become more routine to communities. So I am asking you to partner with me in my comfort offering of a storm-victims help desk. The WEMA help desk center will be utilized during storms.  WEMA stands for Weather Emergency Management Agency. I am seeking volunteers to add to the WEMA database of available storm prep and cleanup volunteers. I also welcome partnering opportunities for sharing your unique entrepreneurial service or company brand, and charity supplies distribution to those in need.

Each time that there is a major storm or hurricane, nationally, my online help desk will be available to individuals and families to share quick weather alerts, and resource links and local information (English and Espanol when applicable to areas).
