Organizing Your Refrigerated Items

From the Editor
Ladies, I hope your week hasn't been too challenging. As we prepare for the Memorial Day holiday, please take time out to pray for the 7 United Methodist black churches located in Kent County, Maryland.  Again, there are two pastors resigning and will be leaving as of June 2, 2012. These are seven churches with no consistent leadership. I am quite sure that there must be a better way to fellowship. If only they would vote for me. I CARE. I KNOW. I AM WILLING TO BE YOUR ACTING PASTOR 7 CHURCHES. My attending church didn't even have Easter Sunday service this year. It is so frustrating when you are trying to guide your own children by attempting some type of normal family structure and bonding time when divorced. Are you satisfied with your church/mosque/temple leadership?

The New Monday Show
We are still continuing with praise and worship:  Featured songs that were chosen during the discussion of the Book of Numbers (Holy Bible) are being played. Thanks to Bishop T.D. Jakes for his announcement of Whitney Houston's duet with Jordin Sparks. Her last single, Celebrate, is featured in the upcoming movie, Sparkle. It releases in July. Ms. Houston was a pretty lady. Did you know that Ms. Houston no longer had eleven of her real teeth? Having real teeth helps you to chew and digest your food appropriately. Keep your teeth healthy by eating more dairy, fruits, and vegetables.  Praise and worship will continue on the next broadcast along with the introduction of our new discussion, Holy Quran Surah IV: Women. The NewMonday Show available 24/7 at sherleneonline.org

Let's talk Organizing Your Refrigerated Items
Tonight's Twitter show (@atimetolearn) discussed organizing your refrigerator. Michael Ferraro (3/2012) suggests the following kitchen tips:
  • Purchase a fridge thermometer. Try purchasing at a hardware store like Lowes, etc., or Amazon or Ebay. It doesn't matter whether you purchase the digital or standard brand. Keep your fridge at 40 degrees F or lower.
My point: Foods should not freeze in your fridge even if your family doesn't open fridge door frequently.
  • The back corners of the top shelf are the coldest spots in the refrigerator. Store dairy (your calcium and Vitamin D source for your body) on the top shelf. Ferraro's advice is to place any item on this shelf that needs a same, consistent temperature for preparation.
  • Leftovers are typically safe for three to four days after cooking thoroughly (USDA).
  • Stash the items you use most on the middle shelf. Another suggestion made by Ferraro, arrange items from smallest to tallest.
My point: I organize my kitchen by needs of the item's purpose. If you have made several trips to the food store, and purchased the same item, make sure to eat oldest food items purchased first, and save the new purchased items for another time. You can also label frozen foods by using a permanent marker.
  • All uncooked meats should be stored on the bottom shelf and far back as possible.
In summary, I guess my point is, all foods should be stored closer towards the back of the fridge. Ladies, who is with me for wanting to keep our unique families as healthy as possible?
